Pak singer to perform in UK May 22, 2008

Noted Pakistani pop singer Ali Zafar is set to thrill his Asian music fans when he performs in British capital and in Birmingham on May 24 and 25 respectively.

The Lahore-born artist will join his Indian counterparts Jay Sean, Sukshinder Singh, Hard Kaur and Imran Khan in the three-hour programme titled ‘Mega Stars Nite concert.’

The music extravaganza will feature a range of music from pop from r’n’b to soul to hip-hop and bhangra.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Ali said he was happy to perform with

his Indian singers as this would further help to bring the Asian communities together and promote peace in the sub-continent.

He called for greater inter-action both with the Indian music and film industry and said Pakistan could learn from their vast experience. Ali said Pakistani singers have not been able to establish themselves on the international stage due to lack of exposure though some groups are quite popular across the border.

The pop singer said both film and music industry in Pakistan face various problems as the supporting institutions are neither well-established nor developed. He said piracy of music was another issue facing the musicians and the lack of enforcement of laws was hurting them.

Responding to a question, Ali said he was proceeding to India next month to shoot a music video as well as discuss some film scripts he has offered by the Indian producers.

He recalled his last year’s performance at the Trafalgar Square during the Pakistan festival and said he was appreciative of the response by his fans in UK.Ali said during his two performances at the week-end, he would sing at least a dozen of his hit songs.

The Pakistani singer said he has no plans as yet to established a charity organisation as music was a very demanding job which require a lot of hard labour.

The award-winning singer has a big fan club in UK. His album ‘Huqa Pani’ sold over five million copies world wide. His song ‘Chanoo’ made a huge impact on the Asian music which remained on top on various charts for a quite a long.

Promoter Faisal Shaukat said he was expecting full houses during the two shows and the sale of tickets has been very good because the event is providing best of singers from the Asian community.
